micko67 Posted August 18, 2011 Report Posted August 18, 2011 I have just bought my 2000 galaxy, I have checked the break pads and they are New, the dash is saying ' check break pads' I would like this warning to not appear. Is there a way to switch it off? Reset it? Its not doing anything its just annoying...cheers micko. Quote
MrT Posted August 18, 2011 Report Posted August 18, 2011 This warning is usually caused by a break in the circuits to the pads. The first thing is always to check the pads on both sides of the disks, which you have done. Check that the trailing wire connectors with fairly large plugs behind each wheel are firmly pushed together, they often are not after work has been done on the brakes but may appear to be, just not fully pushed together. There is also the possibility that the pads fitted do not have sensors (they should) or the fine wires to them were damaged in the installation. On my car when I have left it for a long time without using it, this warning has happened but after a few hard uses of the brake, it has cleared. I suspect this was related to leaving the handbrake on when it was not being used which stuck the pads with disk rust. Quote

Hi Micko Its a warning to tell your pads are worn out, but as you say the pad are ok, but the fault is in the wiring, so if you fix that the light in the dash will go out and when the pads wear out again it will inform you they are low and need changing. But to answer the question ! no you cannot just switch it off Radiotwo Quote
bfc1001 Posted August 18, 2011 Report Posted August 18, 2011 there is a way of turning it off . cut the wires connected to the sensors then join them together . its just a closed loop . if there s no disruption in the circuit your car will think everything s a ok . there s one on the front left and back right , that s how mine is wired up anyway .you ll just have to check your brake pads the old fashioned way , with your eye s ! cyborg Posted August 20, 2011 Report Posted August 20, 2011 Good morning Micko, Welcome to the forum ,Switching on/off the brake pad warning is possible as some lesser galaxys come without that option. to do so you would need to use a licensed version of vagcom $99 dollers and would need a lead to connect to ecu then you would select. 17-Instruments Recode for warning lamps: [select] [17 - Instruments] [Recode - 07] Write down the existing coding for future reference. Enter 5-digit code from below [Do It!] Look at the first two digits in the coding. Add the values for the options together to get the correct coding. 00 - No available equipment +01 - Brakepad wear sensor warning active However seems like a lot of hassle when brake pads are Quote
